Denture Care
Following a surgery appointment where a full upper and/or lower denture has been placed, it is strongly advised that the denture not be removed from the mouth for the first 24 hours. This allows the blood clots to establish and help promote healing.
In certain circumstances, your denturist may set up a follow up appointment ahead of time with you for the day following surgery to ensure proper fit of the dentures.
Once the 24 hours has passed, you can remove the denture(s) and clean them as well as gently rinse your mouth with warm salt water. Be very gentle about rinsing not to disturb the blood clots as this could result in a dry socket which can equate to a severe amount of pain.
